IRIS CRM was started in 2010 by Dimitri Akhrin as his second venture. Dimitri was at the helm of a thriving ISO (seller of electronic payment services) when he realized that the payment processing industry was missing a reliable business management tool.

IRIS CRM is built in PHP with a MySQL back-end. We are hosted in AWS and are PCI Level 1 Compliant. IRIS CRM owns and operates all of its intellectual property and source code which allows us to develop and deploy new features swiftly.

IRIS CRM was started in 2010 by Dimitri Akhrin as his second venture. Dimitri was at the helm of a thriving ISO (seller of electronic payment services) when he realized that the payment processing industry was missing a reliable business management tool.

Prior to founding IRIS, Dimitri was at the helm of a thriving First Data ISO, on the premise that delivering on every level of commitment is the cornerstone of successful business.

After conducting extensive research, he found that no existing system could meet the payments industry's unique demands so he set out on a mission to create IRIS.

Dimitri holds a Bachelor's degree in Business and Technology Management from New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering.

Recap of IRIS University 2016!

We wrapped up the inaugural session of IRIS University yesterday, November 2nd, 2016.

We thank the attendees for coming and providing us with valuable feedback and the opportunity to educate them about IRIS CRM.

During the University, Dimitri Akhrin, the President of IRIS CRM held two workshop sessions containing 4 different sections. Dimitri delivered real world actionable insight on the usage of leads, tickets, status triggers and many more features of the IRIS platform.

These sessions were followed by one on one breakouts where each ISO in attendance received personal hands-on assistance from IRIS team members.

We are excited about future sessions. The next IRIS University will be in February of 2017.

Dimitri Akhrin Builds A CRM That Moves As Fast As Sales Organizations

Dimitri Akhrin calls it how he sees it. If something’s broken, he’s going to fix it — right after he finishes telling you how broken that thing is. “Traditional reporting systems looked like Windows 95,” he quips.

Akhrin saw that bank-provided portals were siloed and clunky. So, he built a system to consolidate and streamline the daily functions of Independent Sales Organizations. His solution was IRIS CRM, which talks multiple banks and payment processing platforms through a single portal and is also a full-featured call center solution. “After implementing IRIS CRM, our clients begin experiencing an immediate increase in efficiency”, he points out.

IRIS CRM has doubled their revenue in the past seven months. They’ve signed up more clients in those months than the previous two years combined, doubling their number of clients. A wealth of ISOs rely on IRIS CRM to manage their business at scale, and at market speed.


The Communications Tools IRIS Relies On

Let’s say a sales organization using IRIS CRM gets a call from a client. An agent would see a screen pop in their browser showing who’s calling, and routes the call to the proper agent or department while pulling up the client record automatically. Managers can listen in on calls in real-time to provide coaching for extra efficiency.

When the right person picks up, call recording rules kick-in based on the client’s preset area code settings. IRIS CRM allows their clients to be in compliance with two-party recording laws with just a few clicks. Each client can set the rules of when to record calls in both directions, incoming and outgoing, automatically. After the call’s over, if it was recorded the recording will be bound to the customer record, the call length is logged and the dialer metrics dashboard is updated. Managers compare their day’s calls using IRIS’s sales metrics dashboard. They can also set up daily SMS alerts to report on customer’s spend.

In that one workflow IRIS CRM employs the proverbial “kitchen sink”: Twilio Record, Twilio Client + WebRTC, Twilio SMS, TaskRouter, and Call Tracking.

Akhrin is quick to point out that meeting ISO’s needs with a quickness, all in one portal is critical to their success. While ISOs typically use call routing, recording, screen pops, and contextual tracking in a client facing fashion, they can also use those same features internally.

“The ability for a sales manager or sales rep to listen to a phone call of another team member and hear exactly what was said instead of through written shorthand notes, is critical,” says Akhrin. “There’s literally no ambiguity.”

Call recording gives ISOs the chance to coach novice salespeople on what makes a good call. Call routing solves common problems like salespeople forwarding calls from HQ number to their cell phone when they’re out on a trip.

IRIS CRM’s communications suite (internally and externally) is powered by Twilio. Their rapid fire pace of product shipping is bolstered by access to documentation. “The Twilio documentation is great,” says Akhrin.

Akhrin’s team is focused on continually shipping new CRM features with a quickness. If their performance seems above the industry average, Akhrin has a response to that.

IRIS CRM Wins the Catapult Competition at the NEAA 2016

The Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel set the scene for the Northeast Acquirers Association's annual gathering from Jan.13 to 15, 2016. And Boston's newly developed Seaport district was a fitting backdrop for payments' longest-running regional show, which continues to evolve in response to the ever-changing payments industry. Approximately 90 exhibitors and 575 attendees used the NEAA's mobile app and Twitter hashtag #NEAA16 throughout the event.

In its 31st annual conference, the organization furthered its mission to educate and empower merchant acquiring professionals. Established in 1985, the nonprofit, non-membership regional association works diligently to offer vibrant, relevant programs that provide both educational fare and networking opportunities.

This year, association leaders hosted an appreciation dinner for new and long-standing sponsors on Tuesday evening, Jan. 12. A professional photographer treated exhibitors and attendees to free LinkedIn headshots. Even the weather cooperated; a few diminutive snowflakes added sparkle to the evenings without causing inconvenience.

Breakout sessions

Following is a sampling of the breakout sessions held Wed., Jan. 13:

  • Electronic Transaction Association: The ETA's collaborations with regional payments associations have been highly praised by many as beneficial for the industry. The association hosted an ISO meeting and separate course titled "Introduction to Electronic Processing" from the ETA's College of General Studies.
  • American Express Co. Tool and Resource Center: NEAA platinum sponsor AmEx hosted a session for ISOs designed to help merchant level salespeople acquire and engage merchants and promote the value of AmEx Card acceptance to their customers.
  • Women's Network in Electronic Transactions: W.net hosted a two-person panel discussion exploring the intergenerational workplace. Millennial executives Alexis King of National Merchants Association LLC and Natalia Tango of CardFlight Inc. shared insights on how to work with this up-and-coming demographic segment.
  • Catapult 2016 Innovation Program: Five finalists from the NEAA's 2016 startup competition had 10 minutes each to present their visions to a general audience and five-judge panel. First place winner IRIS CRM (from Integrated Reporting is Simple LLC) won $1,000 and a complimentary exhibit space in the Payments Next Zone at Transact 16: Powered by ETA, which is coming up April 17 through 21. Runner-up MePOS Electronics Ltd. won $500. Third place winner POPcodes Inc. won $300. Fourth place and $200 went to Click a Waiter Inc. and fifth place winner Pegasus CRM (from Pegasus Software) won $100. Competitors were judged on originality, revenue opportunity, presentation quality and impact to the market. As one judge said, "Without developers, our industry would have disappeared a long time ago."

The Automated ISO

The business model for a successful ISO in today's merchant services industry is complex. To be competitive, ISOs must not only track an enormous amount of daily information and keep current with technologies and trends, but they also have to crunch that data to strengthen their operations and profits.

Until fairly recently, few applications catered to the ISO business model. This was partially due to the number of payment processors. Each processor's application process is different, and most processors have distinct online entry tools, which can make managing the sales pipeline, applications and merchant boarding cumbersome for ISOs.

Transforming effective into efficient

Tom Waters, Director of Sales at Bank Associates Merchant Services and IRIS CRM customer, told The Green Sheet, "The processor tools are a little bit archaic and difficult to navigate, and there are so many of them, so it made it somewhat frustrating for our operational staff."

This common situation led some industry professionals to create better solutions. Certain enterprising ISOs with healthy capital reserves or in-house technical staff began developing proprietary systems. And the concept of boxed ISO management tools emerged. At first, the focus was on simplifying the boarding process and gathering merchant transaction details. Today, many solutions track and manage every step in an ISO's back office, provide sales pipeline reports and import third-party application data.

"We started out being a new merchant on-boarding and transaction reporting tool," said Dimitri Akhrin, President of IRIS CRM, which is PCI Level 1 certified. "The CRM came separately, but I wouldn't call us a CRM as much as I'd call us an ERP, or a complete enterprise level management solution tailored to the ISO business model."

Josh Johnstone, Corporate Marketing Director at POS Portal, said many dedicated ISO management tools also offer integrations with most major processors. However, what makes them different from each other is how they work within an ISO's office management environment. For example, his company's product, P2, was built on the SalesForce.com open source backbone.

"We are an authorized third-party ISO management software developer on the SalesForce.com platform," Johnstone said. "We've created a custom solution for ISOs utilizing all the SalesForce.com features, tools and plug-ins, but re-designed and simplified it for the merchant acquiring model."

POS Portal's Manager of Software Sales, John-Paul Sansone, added, "One client might be selling through one processor today, but they could move their portfolio to another processor later, so portability of data and a single system of record is important."

While this model works best for ISOs that, in Johnstone's words, "have used SalesForce previously or are purchasing it for the first time," many ISOs cannot invest in the robust SalesForce.com platform. This is where other ISO management tools come to into play. Yet only a handful of off-the-shelf ISO management solutions are available. And they aren't always offered at a price smaller ISOs can afford.

Robert Hendrix, Chief Executive Officer of Bankcard Pros CRM software, found his sweet-spot in this market. "We support small to midsized ISOs and offer them an affordable 'no user fee' flat rate for an unlimited number of users."

Looks like there is plenty of ISO market share to go around.

The PCI Data Security Standard is comprised of the five major payment networks including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB. The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council put together this global standard, which every business that wants to store, process and transmit cardholder data must comply with.

PCI compliance is important in the payments industry for many reasons. The compliance piece consists of six control objectives including: building and maintaining a secure network, protecting cardholder data, maintaining a vulnerability management program, implementing strong access control measures, regularly monitoring and testing networks and maintaining an information security policy. In today’s climate, IRIS CRM makes it a priority to invest into its infrastructure and new features to ensure that they are staying ahead of the marketplace and operating securely.
