New Feature: Save & Play Media in IRIS CRM

New Feature: Save & Play Media in IRIS CRM

By some estimates, 74% of all Internet traffic in 2017 will be video. The use of online video will only continue to grow, even in the business environment.  Getting your message across by using video content provides distinct advantages to your business over other types of media.

For example, users are 41% more likely to open a video training link than its plain-text PDF counterpart. 74% of users who watched an explainer video about services subsequently bought it. 75% of executives watch work-related videos on business websites at least once a week. The list goes on.

Knowing the importance of the video-era trend, we added the ability to Save & Play Media in IRIS CRM for specific user classes.  Need some examples?

You can now create promotional videos for your merchants, sales training material for your reps, and just about any other collateral that will help power your business forward.

You can also organize your media in custom categories, assign access permissions to each media and play the video/audio content using the built-in player. Here’s the lowdown on using the new feature in a few quick steps.

Create Your Media Category and Upload a Video

To start, go to Manage > Administration > Home Page > Upload Media, and click on the “Add New Category” button. Enter the name of your category and select the user class (or classes) that will have access to the category. When finished, click on the “Add” button:

Your new category will now appear on the Media Widget Management page as shown in the image below. To add a new media to your new category, click on the “Add/Remove Media” button:

In the Media Management page which opens up, click on the “Add New Media” button:

A pop-up will now appear which you can use to upload your video. You’ll also need to enter additional information about the media, and optionally set the access permissions:

Tip: To view the file formats which are supported by the media widget, click on the “View Supported File Formats” link at the top of the pop-up. A pop-up window will appear showing a list of supported file formats as well as the browsers which can be used to open or view such files:

When finished, click on the “Add” button on the pop-up. The new media is now saved:

Create the Media Home Tab

Having uploaded your video to IRIS CRM, you’ll now want to display the new media on one of your home tabs. A common practice is to create a new tab which will be used to view all media files in one place.

To create the new tab, go to Manage > Administration > Home Page > Home Tabs and create a new tab called Media:

In order to display different media on the new tab, you will first need to add a new “Custom Media” component on the tab. Go to the new tab you just created and click on the “Add/Remove Components” button:

On the page which opens up next, click on the “Add New Component” button:

The “Add New Component” pop-up will now appear. Select the “Custom Media” option in the drop-down menu and click “Add”:

With this, the new “Custom Media” component has been added to the Media tab:

There’s just one more step to go.

Select Media Categories To Be Shown

Go to the new component you just created and click on the “Configure Categories” button. A pop-up will appear as shown below:

Enter the widget title on the pop-up and use the “Select Media” drop-down menu to add one or more media categories to your widget. When finished, click “Save”.

The new video is now available for preview on your Media tab:

To play the video, click on the Play button and the video will open in a built-in video player:
